What moves the price
Tonnage
Cooling capacity changes equipment cost. Your home’s cooling needs and the existing duct system determine the appropriate size; bigger is not automatically better.
SEER2 tier
The Florida guides use a 14.3 SEER2 baseline minimum for split-system AC. Confirm the applicable minimum and rated efficiency for the exact system type and size. Higher-efficiency and variable-speed options change the upfront price.
Ductwork condition
Reusing sound ducts is a different scope from repairing leaks or replacing damaged runs. Ask which changes are included and which are separate.
Electrical work
A new system may need electrical changes. Have the contractor identify the required work and include it in the total before installation.
Mechanical permit
A Brevard County mechanical permit is part of the replacement process. Confirm the responsible permitting authority for your address, who obtains the permit and who arranges inspection.
Refrigerant transition
New R-32 and R-454B equipment changes the equipment and installation requirements. Ask for the refrigerant type and compatible equipment in writing; do not compare unlike system generations by price alone.
Installation complexity
Attic or rooftop access, an elevated stand, lineset routing, removal and hurricane tie-down work can change the job. An accessible replacement and a difficult relocation need different quotes.

Rebates and credits, honestly
Federal 25C: the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ended for installs after 2025. It does not apply to a new 2026 installation. IRS credit guidance (reviewed September 11, 2026).
Florida HOMES/HEAR: announced, not yet accepting applications as of the September 10, 2026 program review. Check the Florida Energy Saver Program portal for application status before making plans around a rebate.

Compare the full installed price first. Count an incentive only after its current eligibility and availability are confirmed for your installation.
Repair or replace?
A breakdown does not automatically mean you need a new system. Compare a written repair price with a complete replacement quote, the equipment’s condition, age and repair history. A small isolated fault is a different decision from a major component failure in a corroded system.

What a complete quote must include
- Equipment: condenser and air-handler model numbers, tonnage, matched SEER2 rating, refrigerant and selected tier.
- Warranty years: parts and labor coverage separately, registration requirements, exclusions and who handles service.
- Permit: permit and inspection responsibility, with the cost included or clearly itemized.
- Lineset: whether it will be reused or replaced, and what that work covers.
- Ductwork scope: the exact repairs, connections or replacements included; identify excluded work.
- Installation and total: electrical work, stand or pad, tie-downs, removal, startup, adjustments and payment terms in writing.
Two similar totals can buy different jobs. Compare these items line by line before deciding whether a quote is fair.

Compare the same system type, size, efficiency and installation scope. Check the equipment models, warranty years, permit, lineset and ductwork against the written total. Our published tables give you a starting point; a free second opinion can help explain differences.
Why do quotes vary so much?
Equipment size and efficiency, duct condition, electrical work, permits, refrigerant type and installation access all affect the total. Ask each contractor to list the included work so you can compare the same job.
Do you charge to come out?
For an AC repair visit, the diagnostic fee is quoted before we roll a truck and credited toward the repair if you approve it. We offer free second opinions; explain what you need when you call so we can confirm the scope and any separately requested service before dispatch.
